Woodstock is one of Cape Town's oldest neighbourhoods. It has a colourful past and continues to be home to people from many different cultures.
It has recently seen an upsurge in property prices due to increased interest and rehabilitation of the area.
Some history - German born Heinrich Egersdarfer, exceptional artist and trained lithographer was a long time resident of Woodstock. It was here at the beginning of the 20th century that he designed what was to become the Springbok emblem. The Springbok as logo was not only used by sportsmen, but also by the SA Railways, the SA Airways and by Sir Herbert Baker when redesigning SA House on Trafalgar Square, London. Today his work is of great cultural and historical value and you will find some of his work in the Fehr collection in Cape Town.
And back to the present day - Don't miss the 'Neighbourgoods Market' at the Old Biscuit Mill every Saturday from 9am to 2pm. This vibrant market boasts a variety of delights ranging from mouth watering organic food and wine to designer baby wear. The Old Biscuit Mill Complex is also home to a number of interesting tenants including furniture, antique and bead purveyors and the 'What if the World' Contemporary Art Gallery. If it's theater you're after, the recently established Theatre in the District provides a space for emerging and established artists to showcase their talents.
Roodebloem Road is home to a number of cosy eateries and the prolific nightlife of Observatory is a 5 minute drive away.
