Gateway to Greater Addo, Alexandria is a friendly farming town, known mainly for its chicory farming and also for its dairy and pineapple farming.
The 25 000 hectare Woody Cape Nature Reserve protects one of the world?s most important examples of dunefield habitat - the Alexandria Dunefields. It is an excellent birding destination. Walking routes include the 2-day Alexandria Hiking Trail - a 36km ramble through forests and dunes and along the seashore. Route 72 has a tourist loop route through Woody Cape to the coastal villages of Cannon Rocks and Boknes - an easy walk along the beach from here to the Diaz Cross.
Visit the historical grave site of the Xhosa maiden, Nongqawuse, or relax in the tranquil Quin Sculpture Garden and Gallery.
