Bhisho is the provincial capital of the Eastern Cape featuring the provincial legislature and various government buildings. Immediately east of King William's Town, this recently built town used to be the capital of independent homeland of the Ciskei, in apartheid South Africa. It was reincorporated into the new South Africa in 1994. Built outside King William's Town, Bhisho is unique as it is thus far the only town on Earth which has been built according to the post modernist idiom.
