Edenburg was establishhed in 1862. This typical Free State town sets its own pace alongside the N1, the country's busiest national road. The citizens of Edenburg believe that the name of their town was derived from the Biblical concept of Eden, and when one look at the tranquil environment and the golden sunsets it is quite clear where this thought comes from. It was founded on the farm Rietfontein in 1862. It is currently a prosperous sheep and cattle farming centre.
